“In repentance and rest you will be saved,In quietness and trust is your strength.”
-Isaiah 30:15
I love how repentance is connected with rest.
When I repent I’m done with striving. I admit my sins, failures, and inadequacies and there is freedom in that. I don’t have to DO more or BE more than I am. My rest is found in Jesus and He is my salvation. He has done and is all that’s needed. I can rest in that fact.
Resting in the truth of Jesus gives me a quietness of soul. As I trust Christ’s work in my life I find strength. Strength to be who I am and who I’m becoming. Strength for each day’s work. Strength for joy. Strength to love.
Strength to rest.

Danielle, i just wrote this morning on my blog about what I’d tell myself back when I struggled with chronic guilt. I was talking to Jason about what is different now, and one of the things is what you are saying here: I’ve learned to rest in Jesus’ work on my behalf. I’m so glad that you youngers seem to have embraced this earlier and better and will be spared the striving that goes with a performance mentality! Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!

Thanks Laurie. It can be easy to fall back into “performance mentality” so this is a reminder for myself!

Sometimes, the simplest truths are the hardest to accept. I guess that this is what faith is all about. God blesas you for this. Thank you, John.
